The Amberley Advent Calendar is a series of 'Open House' events that take place through December, when residents either host an event in Amberley or open up their houses for a specific activity. For each event or activity , attendees voluntarily give to a charity chosen by the host.

Saturday 30 November 9 30 – 1pm
St Michael’s Hallraisers’ Christmas Fair in the Church Hall. Start your countdown to Christmas by soaking up the festive atmosphere and stocking up on your Christmas cards and gifts. Stalls include arts, crafts, cards and home ware along with gourmet food and drink. There will be something to suit every taste.

Festive Card and Tag Making Workshop in the Church Hall. Do come along and join Jax, Mary and Sandie for a fun and festive ‘arty’ morning trying your hand at some simple and effective idea on how to create your own cards and gift tags in time for Christmas! No experience needed. All materials and mid morning refreshments included for a mere £12. Christmas Fayre at the Village Stores come and get festive with the whole community. Cheese, meats, savoury and sweet, plus wine samples available. Large discounts on the day – a good day to support your village store.
Friday 6 December 10 30 – 5pm
Open House -Tunics Galore -recycling at its best. Accomplished needlewoman Stella Kemp invites you to visit her at Swallow Barn, the Square to view (and buy) the gorgeous tunics she makes from repurposed fabrics. Model Railway in the loft at Downsland, Turnpike Road. Malcolm Pheasey invites enthusiasts of all ages to visit his model railway in the loft. Please note that access is via a stepladder and not for the fainthearted. If your partner is interested in model railways and you are not, come anyway for a chat. Refreshments will be served. Alpine Christmas - in the ‘car port between Nos 25 and 26 Newland Gardens if the weather permits, inside at No 25 if the weather does not permit! Come in a Christmas jumper, though not compulsory, there will be a prize for the best. Mulled wine, spiced apple juice, hot chocolate and Russell Anthony’s special home brew, as well as nibbles with an alpine theme will be served. Numbers are not limited but please RSVP so we know how many to cater for.

Tree Dressing on the Millennium Green: A celebration of trees. Come along to Amberley Millennium Green to decorate our wonderful trees. Please bring homemade natural tree decorations (no plastic, glass or glitter). Or make some decorations with us on the day. Christmas hospitality with Suzie and Russell Coates who will open their door to the carol singers at Little Nailards in the Alley and offer them refreshments after their musical efforts
Wednesday 18 December
Carols and Chestnut evening at the Bridge around the tree with complimentary roasted chestnuts. Petworth Town band will be merrily playing for everyone to sing along and get into the Christmas spirit. Mulled wine to keep you warm and you never know – it might just snow. Donations to St Peter’s and St James’ Hospice.
Tuesday 24 December 3 pm
The Traditional Journey to the Crib. This will start in the Square and make its way down Church Street meeting Shepherds and Kings on the way to the Crib at St Michael’s church. Last year there were donkeys and sheep to meet on the way so fingers crossed for this year (doubt there will be camels!) Refreshments afterwards at the church. Donations to the Lorica Trust.
Those who are opening their doors are looking forward to a festive and charitable Advent and to seeing as many of you as possible. Visitors do help those providing refreshments by letting them know you are going to events so that catering can be organised as cost effectively as possible.
