Amberley Eco Hub
Reduce, Re-use , Recycle
Welcome to the Amberley Eco Hub - A not-for-profit local initiative.
At the Amberley Eco Hub, we are on a mission to reduce waste going into landfills, and we need your help to make it happen.
Here's what we offer:
Recycling Information and Drop-off Point: Come to our hub to access valuable information about recycling and conveniently drop off your recyclables. We're here to guide you on the best ways to reduce your environmental impact.

Repair Café: We specialize in textile and electrical repairs and have recently expanded to include tool sharpening. Our dedicated volunteers are experienced and knowledgeable. Plus, all electrical items are PAT tested before they leave our café and we are fully insured.

Refill Station: We have eco-friendly household and personal care products at our refill station. From washing up liquid to shampoo, buying refills not only saves you money but also reduces your carbon footprint by 70% in CO2 emissions, 65% in energy, and 45% in water compared to buying new products. It's also cheaper as with refills you don't pay for the cost of the bottle.

Our recycling scheme was set up with the ongoing support of Sussex Green Living. We accept many types of waste that cannot be recycled via WSCC and provide information on how to recycle all sorts of things. We have a collection of flexible plastics that we take to Supermarkets to be recycled. The public can also take their own flexible plastic to local supermarket collecting points.
We also collect other waste such as empty toothpaste tubes, old toothbrushes and electric toothbrush heads and packaging, old make up, rubber and latex gloves, ink cartridges, water filters, air fresheners, flexible plastic and metallic plastic tubes used for body creams ointments and moisturisers, old pens, biros, highlighters and tippex, coffee packaging (not pods-ask us about podback scheme), cheese packaging, bread bags, personal care packaging eg lids, pots, tubes, contact lens packs, amongst other things are taken once a month to Horsham to be packaged and sent off to Terracycle by Sussex Green Living. The knowledge about how to deal with different types of waste has been learnt through visits to Ford Materials Recycling Facility and the Mechanical and Biological Treatment Plant run by Biffa, near Horsham, as well as attending training courses and zoom meetings run by Sussex Green Living. These items would otherwise go into landfill. We have run out of landfill space in West Sussex and all our general waste is transported to Redhill to go into Surrey landfill for which WSCC has to pay.

Why Repair Cafés Matter: The need for repair cafés has never been greater. In the UK, we're the second-largest producer of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) per capita. It's time to tackle this issue together.

Recycling for a Better Tomorrow: Did you know that in 2021/22, West Sussex residents threw away nearly 5,800 tonnes of textiles that could have been repaired, reused, or recycled? We are part of the solution to reduce this waste.

Eco-Friendly Refills for Sale: Our refillable products are not just eco-conscious; they're also cost-effective. By opting for refills, you're reducing waste and saving money.
Future Sustainability Goals: Stay tuned for occasional additional stalls on topics like green energy. We're committed to promoting sustainable living.

How Our Repair Café Came to Life: A year of planning, dedicated volunteers, and support from Sussex Green Living made our Repair Café a reality. We're here to help you fix and reuse your items.
Enjoy Fairtrade Refreshments: While you're at the Amberley Eco Hub, don't forget to enjoy our Fairtrade tea, coffee, and delicious cake, all in exchange for a small donation.

Get Involved: We are always keen to welcome volunteers to share their skills at the Eco Hub. If you have a couple of hours to spare on a Saturday once per month please contact us at amberleyecohub@gmail.com.
