Bastille Day Lunch, 14th July 2024

Vive La France!

Le Quatorze Juillet was celebrated in great style, with St Michael's Church Hall transformed into a Parisian Café!  Le Tricolore fluttered in the breeze and accordion player, Ian Miles, seranaded guests as they availed themselves of an aperitif of chilled rosé and indulged in badinage with friends and neighbours.

A delicious banquet of Saumon en Croûte, Tarte au Citron and, of course, Fromage, was prepared and served by the incomparable Sarah Wheeler and her merry band of cuisinières (our heartfelt thanks, tout le monde!) before the star attraction, musical duo 'A Bientôt', took to the stage.  Local chanteuse, Catherine Cunningham, was spellbinding as she she treated our 45 guests to a performance of self-penned songs, en français, accompanied by her songwriting partner, Alistair Sherwood, on guitar.

Café was then served to a rousing chorus of La Marseillaise, and guests left sated, both gastronomically and artistically!  The Hallraisers can confirm that over £800 was raised towards the Hall's makeover project, and would like to say a huge Merci Beaucoup to everyone who contributed to a très chic et magnifique afternoon, and to all our guests for their company and support -  it is appreciated!
